Roses in the Rain [short story]: Part 1

I walked past the flower shop like always. She stopped like always. Pointed at the roses like always. “One day,” she said, nudging me, “you’ll buy me those.” “In your dreams,” I muttered. She laughed, bright and warm, like she always did. It felt like nothing in the world could ever change. I wish that had been true. The summer fireworks were her favorite thing in the world, so of course she dragged me there. “Come on, walk faster,” she said, pulling my sleeve. “I wanna get a good spot!” “We come here every year,” I said. “It’s the same thing.” She spun around with that fake angry face. “How dare you say that? Fireworks change every year! You’re lucky I’m here to teach you these important life things.” I rolled my eyes, but she was already laughing. We climbed our usual hill and spread the blanket. We sat so close our knees almost touched. I tried to ignore it, but she caught me looking and smirked. “Relax,” she whispered. “It’s just me.” The first firework burst, blue and gold. Then another. Lights flickered in her eyes like tiny stars. She leaned in a little, pretending to fix her hair, but her shoulder brushed mine on purpose. Then she said it: “Hey
I need to tell you something.” “What?” I asked. She paused
then smiled in that teasing way she always did. “I’m dying,” she said lightly, as if she were making a dumb joke just to see my reaction. “Isn’t that crazy?” I choked on my drink. “What?! What are you talking about?” She laughed—not loud, but enough to make it sound like she’d just pulled the biggest prank on me. “You should see your face right now,” she giggled. “It’s priceless.” I felt my heart slam against my ribs. “That’s not funny.” “I know,” she whispered. The laughter faded. Another firework burst overhead—pink, then gold. The light fell across her face, and suddenly
she wasn’t joking anymore. She looked back at the sky as she said, quietly: “I have something called acute myeloid leukemia.” The words hit harder than the fireworks. My whole world froze. She kept watching the sky, not me. “It’s
bad,” she whispered. “Really bad.” A bright firework lit her face— and in that split second, I saw tears sliding down her cheeks. But she smiled through them. “Hey
don’t look at me like that,” she whispered. “You’ll make me cry harder.” Another firework exploded behind her. Her tears sparkled. Her smile stayed. I couldn’t say anything. I didn’t even know how. Her seat was empty the next day. I kept staring at it. Willing her to walk in late, laughing, teasing me like always, "Missed me?" The teacher spoke softly. “She was taken to the hospital last night.” My heart dropped. I didn’t even hear the rest. I just ran. Out of the classroom. Down the stairs. Out the school gate. I didn’t stop until I reached the hospital.

Roses in the Rain [short story]: Part 2

I found her room at the end of a long hallway. I didn’t open the door. I couldn’t. What if I cried? What if I broke down? So I stayed at the small window, watching her. She lay on the bed, eyes half-open but unfocused. She couldn’t see. Her fingers trembled each time she lifted them. Her breathing was slow, uneven. Then she reached for her phone. I didn’t look away. She tapped record. Her voice was soft
 cracking
 but still somehow teasing: “Heeey
 dummy
” A weak laugh slipped out. “I can’t see anything anymore,” she whispered. “Everything’s dark. But I know you’re worried. You always are.” Her hand shook as she held the phone up. “I
wish I could’ve seen you one last time.” Those words hit harder than any firework. “I don’t want you sad, okay? Remember the fireworks. Remember my smile
not this.” She coughed, breath catching. “And hey
the roses you never bought me
 I’m still waiting
” Her finger trembled. Then she hit send. I watched the message show up on my phone seconds later. And here is the part you wanted kept exactly as it is: I pressed my palm against the door. I wanted to go in. I wanted to tell her everything— how scared I was, how much she meant to me, how she wasn’t allowed to leave me yet. But I couldn’t move. I told myself: "When she gets better
I’ll tell her everything. Tomorrow. Tomorrow for sure." I walked away. Believing there would be a tomorrow. Next Day Her seat was empty again. The teacher’s voice shook. “She passed away early this morning.” Everything after that was just noise. I walked out before the tears came. I ended up at the flower shop. Rain soaked my sleeves, my hair, my hands. The florist looked up and gave a soft smile. “Roses?” “Yeah
she loves roses,” I said, my voice barely a voice. She wrapped them gently as rain tapped against the glass. “She’ll hug you tight for these,” she said. I stared at the bouquet. “If only graves could hug back
” I whispered. She didn’t reply. The rain answered for her. I walked to her grave, holding the roses tight. The petals were wet, but I didn’t cover them. Her stone looked clean from the rain, too clean. I knelt and set the roses down. “I saw your message,” I whispered. “I watched you send it.” Wind brushed through the wet grass. “I wish I’d gone inside,” I said, voice cracking. “I wish I told you everything.” Rain blurred the letters in her name. “I miss you
so much.” The roses lay still. The world stayed quiet. And the girl who always teased me at the flower shop was gone. ------------------- I am not stopping the hianime chat romcom just too much happiness is unbearable for me, so here it is

Anime- Me in real life đŸ„”đŸ„¶

Finally somehow I was talking to my crush when a whole ceiling fan fell straight at my head, but my “heartbroken, love deprived protagonist plot armor” made it miss by one millimeter (đŸ˜±). She gasped like I did something heroic, how cute of her
... (Measure my aura 🩁) so I smiled and said, “Guess destiny wants me aliveđŸ€«đŸ§đŸ».” Then destiny betrayed me instantly—her boyfriend appeared out of nowhere like an overpowered side character, lifted the fan with one hand, and said, “Bro, you good?” She hugged him for being “so strong,” and my plot twist was realizing the plot armor only works to keep me alive, not to help my love life.... ***Let's see if these types of posts are fun or not, looking forward to the replies and comments***
