Since I am caught up to one piece, here are my views on it ✌️
The lack of character deaths in one piece makes it hard for me to stay invested or take the narrative seriously. When characters like the akazaya aine “die” twice or when eneru's supposed victims turn out to be merely knocked out, it becomes ridiculous. This diminishes the impact of the story and makes villains' defeats feel unsatisfying. Eneru, for example, caused massive destruction and got away scot free, it's just pure a.ss according to me. When fans call this anime “peak fiction,” it’s hard for me to agree when I see characters that look like they were drawn by five year olds, for example- gecko moria, that noodles guy from water 7, the three fish princes from fishman island, and foxy from. Many arcs feel repetitive to the point where I’ve memorized the formula. Typically, a lost or strong willed princess seeks the straw hats’ help to stop an evil ruler who has taken over their kingdom. Luffy, seeing the suffering, decides to kick the villain’s a.ss no matter how strong they are because he’s got guts. Then they throw a celebration and move on. Rinse and repeat. The same goes with alabasta, dressrosa, zou, thriller bark, and especially wano. I don’t see much character development in most of the straw hats. luffy, zoro, nami, and sanji haven’t changed much in my eyes. They still rely on the same gimmicks. The quality of the villains is hit or miss. While I’ll admit Doflamingo is in my top 10 anime villains, most of one piece’s antagonists can’t compete with villains from other series like naruto, jojo’s, jjk, or bleach. Captain kuro, Wwpol, and kaido (debatably) just don’t hold up against the likes of orochimaru, pain, sukuna, dio brando, or aizen. And what p.isses me off the most is the "it gets good after 300 episodes" argument 💀
